Swim Ireland are holding their annual Christmas Cracker Fun Gala on Sunday 10 December 2017 at the National Aquatic Centre, Blanchardstown, Dublin.

This gala is for swimmers aged between 9 and 12 years old and is only for swimmers who have not previously won an individual medal at a gala.

Please not there are “slower than” cut of times and swimmers faster than these may not enter.

The first Internal Gala of the season is taking place on Saturday 16 December 2017 at Cavan Leisure Complex, commencing at 6.00 pm.

All swimmers born between the years 2006 and 2009 are encouraged to take part in this gala.  It is also a great opportunity for parents to see for themselves the results of their children’s training.

Bangor Swimming Club held a Minor Open Meet on Sunday 5 November 2017, at the Aurora Aquatic Centre in Bangor.  This gala was for swimmers aged 9, 10 and 11 years old.

Breifne Swim Club had one swimmer attend this gala, 10 year old Abby McDowell who swims in the Competition Squad.

Abby’s first event was the 25M Butterfly, where she dominated this event taking 0.85 seconds of her own time, giving her a new time of 17.86 seconds and her first Gold Medal of the gala.

Her next race was the 50M Backstroke, where she took 2.69 seconds of her original time to give her a new time of 42.29 seconds and a Silver Medal.

Abby went on to swim in the 100M Breaststroke where she again achieved a new PB time, taking a whooping 21.83 seconds of her original time.

Fourth event of the day was the 25M Freestyle, where Abby had another PB time and her second Gold Medal of the day.

Next up was the 50M Butterfly event where Abby took 2.73 seconds of her time and gained her second Silver Medal of the day.

Abby also swam her final event of the day, the 100M Backstroke.

Trojan Swim Club are holding their annual Invitational Gala over the weekend of 2 and 3 December 2017 at Newpark Sports Centre, Blackrock in Dublin.

On Saturday morning there will be the 50M events for the 9 – 10 age group, while Saturday afternoon will see the 11 – 12 year old age group swim the 100M events.

Sunday morning will be for the 13 and over age group to swim 100M events and Sunday afternoon will be for the 200M events.

This is usually a very busy gala and Breifne Swim Club would like to get entries in as soon as possible, therefore the Breifne Closing Date will be Monday 13 November 2017.
